Westwood United Methodist Church
Mission and Ministries
At Westwood UMC, our mission is grounded in the Wesleyan call to “make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.” We serve as a Lighthouse Congregation, offering a warm, welcoming spiritual home for all—especially for those whose former churches have closed or disaffiliated—reflecting our dedication to care, hospitality, and beacon-like witness in Wayne County. Westwood UMC offers a holistic ministry approach: discipleship rooted in Scripture, transformative service locally and afar, and intentional care for spiritual and physical well-being—anchored in Christ's love and the call to justice.
SPIRITUAL GROWTH & DISCIPLESHIP
-
Disciple Bible Studies: A decade-long commitment to a structured, in-depth study of Scripture, with multiple levels offered regularly.
-
Small Group Studies: Theme-based, participant-driven groups form year-round around biblical books or current issues.
-
Alpha Course & Emmaus Walk: Twice-yearly Alpha sessions introduce newcomers and seekers to core Christian faith, while the Emmaus spiritual renewal experience equips lay leaders for deeper service.

Community Impact & Ministry Teams
Westwood UMC features various dedicated teams—such as Children’s Ministry, Hospitality, Justice (ISAAC), Congregational Care, Stephen Ministry, and more—focused on welcoming all ages, supporting spiritual development, advocating for justice, and fostering community connections.
CCOM-Community Churches on Mission
Westwood partners with our sister chruches St. Luke UMC, Salem UMC, and Princeton UMC to bring the light of Christ to the world. Throughout the year we serve our community through various mission projects. We are currently serving the Smithfield Rescue Center and Women's Shelter to help provide upgrades, and collecting much needed donations.
